    Autumn Is Here!!

    I am so excited that autumn is finally here. It’s rare that the weather actually cooperates with what the calendar says:) While it doesn’t look like autumn yet, and really most of the trees on our property are elm and just turn brown anyway, it does feel like it now!!! So far this hasn’t affected the garden. The tomatoes and peppers are still going like crazy and I expect the peppers will continue for a while, but the tomatoes should be slowing down here soon. The rest of the garden has been turned over to weeds. I probably would have green beans right now, if only I could find them!!…

    Garden Preservation Part 1 2018

    The past couple weeks have been full of weed pulling and veggie picking. We’ve gotten a good bit of rain in between as well, which is great:) Between garden time (and the accompanying allergy attacks!!), I’ve been doing a little work in the kitchen to make sure we can enjoy the veggies in the coming year. I tried refrigerator pickles for the first time this summer, and it was a huge success!!     Monster Zucchini

    This is our first year growing zucchini. Actually the first year growing much of anything other than tomatoes and peppers for quite a while. I knew that zucchini was an easy one to grow and that it would produce much more than we could ever figure out how to use, but I didn’t know that if left alone, a zucchini would just keep growing and growing. Introducing our monster zucchini… We have a few recipes for fresh zucchini, but we aren’t accustomed to eating a lot of it, yet:) And over sized zucchini aren’t the best for fresh eating, so what to do with these monsters?     The WordPress format is pretty new to me, so there is still much for me to figure out on this website, but I thought I’d start this blog out by telling you about our little family, in our little house, and why we are doing what we are trying to do:) My hubby grew up in the country. He is all things hands-on and hard working. If it can be fixed or built by hand, he can likely figure out how to do it.
